Sophie started with BePro in 2017 after applying for an apprenticeship in HR Support.
Sophie supported the admin function alongside carrying out HR duties. She studied her CIPD Foundation Diploma in Human Resource Practice as part of her apprenticeship – delivered back then by directors Val and Georgina.
After 18 months of hard work, supported by her development coach, Sophie achieved a distinction in her apprenticeship. She was promoted immediately on completion of her apprenticeship in 2018 to Data and HR Officer, excelling in that role for another 18 months.
In December 2019, Sophie was promoted again to the role of Operations Manager and joined the senior leadership team.
What made you apply or the role of HR Support apprentice with BePro?
I was studying my first year of A-Levels at sixth form and wasn’t enjoying it. I was interested in HR after completing my work experience in a HR department of a local business, so I started to look for HR apprenticeships on the .GOV Find an Apprenticeship website.
Did you consider going to University?
My sixth form encouraged us to attend University open days and events. I did consider a Business Management Degree however students are struggling to find jobs after finishing University and are in huge amounts of debt which is something that didn’t appeal to me.
What did you enjoy most about your apprenticeship?
My whole apprenticeship journey was exciting. When I started back with BePro in 2017 it was my first full time role and I found it really interesting getting stuck into office life and a completely different way of working. It was great to meet other apprentices in a similar position whilst attending the CIPD workshops which were really fun and engaging.
What advice would you give another person in your position about the path you chose?
I’d definitely recommend an apprenticeship to others, I loved having the ability to learn on the job – it helped me get into the career I wanted, and it was a bonus to earn money whilst working towards a qualification. I’ve learnt skills for life and have really matured throughout my apprenticeship.
Employers – did you know you can upskill current employees with an apprenticeship? There are no limits on age or experience, and both levy and non-levy paying employers are eligible. Get in touch to find out more.
