Case Study: Business Administration Diploma Level 2 and 3
North Yorkshire County Council
Upskilling a whole workforce
Who: North Yorkshire County Council took the decision to upskill their workforce, training 47 members of staff to achieve a BTEC Diploma in Business Administration at level 2 or 3. This qualification would equip them with business admin skills and techniques that would allow them to carry out work more efficiently. All of those who took part had duties relating to business admin.
After discussions around individual learner needs, BePro helped NYCC to establish which learners would study the level 2 Diploma, and which the level 3 Diploma.
Method of study: Learners studied using our online VLE BePro Active, with full support and regular visits from BePro assessors.
The qualification was tied into the learners’ everyday work practices, ensuring everything they learned was relevant to their role. This allowed real work to be used to create a portfolio, which was later submitted as evidence to achieve the qualification.
Achievements: All 47 learners completed the Diplom, some doing so in as little as 20 week on the fast track route. Others took the traditional year long route and some up to 15 months. Employees were given time to study around their workload, allowing them access to professional development without overburdening them.
Overall, NYCC benefited from an upskilled workforce who worked more efficiently, increasing productivity. Staff motivation increased as a result of having advanced knowledge, as well as the confidence that their employer was investing in them.
Workforce progression: NYCC is now in a better position to advance and serve people in the region. The increase in productivity demonstrated that the training was a valuable investment. Furthermore, NYCC identified a business priority and took active steps to improve and advance.
